Illustrating HOMEMADE

The book is truly an encyclopedia. It is a big book (800 pages) and very comprehensive in
it's depth and breath of craft knowledge, a good book to have on your shelf
and to pass down from generation to generation. As Carol mentions in the
chapter openings, it is her parents that fostered her creativity and her connection  to crafts.
In the chapter on Paper making Carol tells about how she sat up with her mother
making paper hearts that would decorate the Christmas tree.  An illustration of a paperheart
hanging from a branch graces the page of this prelude to the techniques of creating
with paper. Another chapter on photography begins with her memory of her father sharing his expertise in the art of taking pictures. The illustration at the end of chapter opening on photography is a picture of her father being developed in the old fashioned developing  tray.

The entire book is in black and white and is totally supported by illustration with no photographs.  The big splash of color is one the cover, which is beautiful designed and invites one into to this volume of the art and science of handicrafts.

HOMEMADE stands out from any craft book because it is completely in black and white. There are no photographs. Before you take that as a negative, consider the fact that there are many, many illustrations in the book, which are incredibly detailed...

My first book as author and illustrator, THE DANCER'S BOOK OF BALLET CRATFS

My book, "The Dancer's Book of Ballet Crafts, published by Creative Homeowner

My first book as an author/illustrator was  the award winning craft book The Dancer's Book of Ballet Crafts  published by Creative Homeowner.
I am in the process of posting some of the illustrations from the book. Most of my life has been connected to dance and I thoroughly enjoy illustrating the movements of dancers. Having danced all my life I makes it easier to understand what is going on in a dancer's body and helps me create the
feeling of easy movement.

This is an watercolor illustration of one of the beautiful young dancers who modeled for the book

Here I was inspired to capture the movement of the dancers at the barre.

A dancer's foot resting on the barre is a lovely challenge to capture

I love to capture movement and the energy in a dancer's body.
